India seems to be the flavour du jour for visiting royals. After Prince Charles’ recent visit, comes the visit of the Queen’s first cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, and his wife, Marie Christine, along with their daughter, Lady Gabriella Windsor, and friends.
But unlike Charles’ official visit, Princess Michael (as HRH Marie Christine is known) and her family are in India “on holiday, therefore the news low-key.

In fact, were it not for their appearances at society parties, no one would know they are in town.
BT caught up with the royals at couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s store, which they were visiting before attending a lunch thrown in their honour. “I’m not here to receive the press, we’re on holiday, Princess Michael exclaimed, though she was smiling. But spontaneity and grace took over, and she said: “I love India, we both do.
Her love affair with the country began many years ago. “We came to India on our honeymoon, she smiled. “This time our daughter is with us. The Princess confessed to loving Indian clothing. “I’ve worn many Indian fabrics, she said. “Not sarees, but creations by Indian designers.
Asked why her daughter was not on the shopping spree with them, the Princess’ reply was instantaneous: “She has many Indian friends. She’s a young girl doing young things. She’s visiting all the young places!
The Princess’ love of history and art is well known she has written two historical books. Asked whether she’s familiar with Indian culture, she laughs, “No, but I’d love to know more.
So would we, about her visit here, but she’s finished. “The best thing about this visit has been sighting the tigers at Ranthambore.
